Backfill
Backfill holds against existing dune to provide support.
Backfill is applied above or behind the revetment to provide extra material for the dune to return to its natural angle of reposition.
Benefit of Service
The benefit of backfill is to allow the dune to have more of a base at the toe and for more stabilization for the revetment.
Hazard if not Applied
If backfill is not applied, the dune is more susceptible to still collapsing over itself by trying to stabilize back to its normal angle of reposition.
